General Custer's Golf & Gulp is a landmark on the west side of Cincinnati. The entertainment complex features an 26-hole mini-golf course, 22 large fixtures, a bungee jumper, and a full service creamy whip with a large menu. Voted top 3 in the city.

The Project
General Custer's Golf & Gulp is a staple of their community. However, over the decades it slowly fell into disrepair. This began to be reflected online with negative reviews on websites like Yelp. The new owners knew that their complex needed a big overhaul if they were going to win back the respect of their customers. A full update was in order. To modernize the complex, General Custer's wanted to replace their worn down neon sign with a fresh custom-cut design but without straying away from the classic look that called back to the park's heritage. The old changeable letter sign needed a total face lift and the whole property needed to advertise "fun" and "excitement" to all passers-by.
The Solution
In 2018 Liquid Video Solutions was chosen for the project. After establishing the goals the owners had set out for the complex, LVS got to work on revitalizing the complex. All of the non-working neon was removed and new LED lighting was installed on all three of the buildings. The lighting was then wirelessly networked to a central DMX control module that allowed the staff to change the color of all the lights from one location. The lighting was divided into three separated channels, giving the staff control over an assortment of color combinations and chase effects.
For the changeable letter sign, a new high-resolution full-color LED video sign was chosen as the replacement. The video screen would be double sided and designed to fit perfectly within the existing signage cabinet. The old General Custer ice cream cone sign was modeled and replaced with a fresh vinyl finish. Two other small versions of this design were also used on another building in the park. The old menus in the ice cream parlor were replaced with three new digital signage displays, each able to showcase independent content from one another. Altogether, the LVS solution brought new life to a historic landmark and modernized this classic complex for the next generations of kids and families to enjoy.
